I rode Perris yesterday and that track alway has the best prep in Southern California. Great flow and some big tables. All beginners and novice will love the lay out no big gap jumps very safe and vet friendly. Its going to be a little warm but plenty of shade.
We need a good turn out so the board can afford to book Perris more in the future. So get of the couch and come ride Perris you'll be glad you did.

Looking forward to racing and meeting everyone,this will be my first race ever....any tips or pointers for first time extreme beginners greatly appreciated.  Figure at 47 Is the right age to start..

The track is safest when you clear the jumps.  In order to clear the jumps, go faster than you think you need to.  Keep in mind that a motocross bike is a race bike that works best when it is going fast and not hitting every bump.  Believe in your bike, believe in yourself.  Life begins at 47.

Or you can ride/race at you ability. Know your limits, its always better to be safe and not stupid.

Yeah if you're a legit beginner, don't worry about clearing jumps right off the bat. Just concentrate on your technique and work yourself up to a comfortable pace. Push yourself where you feel like you can. If you decide you're going to jump something, always give it a bit more gas than you think (as said above). The biggest mistake I always made when I was younger was half-assing the throttle on a new jump and coming up short... But also remember: "jumps for show, corners for dough". Being fast in a corner means you clear the jump right after it A LOT easier. Don't ignore ruts.

Also, just be aware of who is around you. On practice days, if you feel like fast riders are coming up on you, make sure you hold your line. If you feel like you can safely get out of the main line, do that, but don't weave across the track or anything. Sometimes fast guys are there a lot quicker than you think. If you get one of those assholes who comes up on you in a corner and revs the shit out of their bike because you have somehow ruined their entire day, just ignore them. You're doing fine as long as you're holding your line.

Thaddeus,
Motocross racing is like being at an auction. Sometimes you get caught up in the moment and overbid.
Come out and practice on saturday (if you haven't already) and learn the track and your limitations.
Then on race day, ride your pace safely and leave under your own power with a smile on your face.
The first race is always nerve racking, so relax and enjoy the day.
If life starts at 47, you certainly don't want to hit the pause button while you recover from an injury.
Welcome aboard, you have chosen a great club and terrific bunch of people to spend your weekends with.
