Mechanic Monday, Tip of the week, Clean holes.

If you look closely on the side of the cylinder head on a modern 4 stroke you will see a hole similar to the one the arrow is pointing to in the picture.
This is one hole you want to keep clean, The hole is a drain for any moisture that collects near the spark plug from washing, condensation or track water ingress. What happens if that drain hole gets clogged with mud or other gooey products is the water next to the spark plug boils and turns to steam which held in place by a nicely sealing spark plug cap increases the air pressure around the spark plug until it either dislodges the mud in the drain hole or dislodges your spark plug cap. Now Murphy will make sure that if your spark plug cap blows off it will happen right on the face of a jump just to ruin your day. So keep that hole clean.

Stay greasy my friends
