Mechanic Monday Tip of the week.

Oh the lowly spark plug. Revered by the 2 stroke crowd and ignored by the 4 stroke crowd. With the modern fuel injected 4 strokes it's easy to treat the spark plug in one's bike the same way we treat them in a car. But there is a deeper more sinister reason to pay attention to the spark plug in a 4 stroke.  That reason is caused by the corrosion between the spark plug with steel threads and the aluminum head it screws into. An easy way to keep up with not having these two items join into something that doesn't want to be separated without all the expense of a celebrity divorce is to simply change the plug every 3 months or so.

Stay greasy my friends

I use "anti-seize" compound on the plug threads in my car.  The two stroke motorcycle lubes the threads with burnt two stroke oil.
