The Boy Scout salute. Probably the most common method of determining chain adjustment on dirt bikes for the last couple of decades. But if your of the technical leaning side of the house that method is pretty subjective at best. A quick handy tool you can make out of a piece of old wood trim is a min and max chain tension gauge. As shown in the pic below.
