I plan on signing up as a member at GH this weekend on 9/16.  The rules say I don't have to do the 2 eval rides because im a past member and will be rejoining in the same Exp class. My question is, can i also do the South National without doing the 2 eval rides?

An O.T.H.G.A. club member must ride a minimum of two club races within the past twelve
months in his skill and age class before attending O.T.H.G.A. Nationals. Master riders are not
required to have any evaluation rides or races to their credit prior to entering any O.T.H.G. event

You would need to do two local race events. On the sign up form for all Nationals, it asks you to list two different dates in last 12 months that you raced.

Masters is really the pro class right? Im not even close to being a pro level rider. The two Eval rides are put in place to help stop sandbagging. I would be signing up as a 45 expert. There is no higher class after expert but pro/masters. So i dont see how there would be a chance of me being a sandbagger as a 45 expert rider. But rules are rules.

Thanks guys.

You can always enter in support. The support classes are usually stacked. 🙂

Antion - how's it going? Call or email Reid Franke and tell him about this.

From bylaws:
UNCLASSIFIED RIDERS: At no time is an unclassified member eligible for trophies or club points.
An unclassified member is not permitted to race a two-day National event (without consent of five
chapters and understanding that the no trophies or club points principal applies if granted the
exception to race a national).

Hi Antoin102,
Glad you're back. Haven't seen you for a while.

I am pretty sure you could ride the expert class on 9-16 for your first evaluation ride.
Then you could ride the master class on Saturday, October 5 for your second evaluation ride.
Let's say you don't win the master class.
Then after meeting the race director you would be allowed and could ride the expert class on Sunday, October 6.

I think you'd like this!
When you ride Saturday in the master class. You could check your times and see just how your would place with the experts. We have transponders now.
Your lap times are put up on the board. Almost immediately after your race!
Then continue racing on Sunday and ride the same track the rest of your expert class is racing and get some points racing with your old class!
Your in.

That is one of the rules on the National rules committee agenda this year.  Something that def needs consideration.  We lost out on 3 long time members riding at our national because the rules are the rules.  That should change for 2013.

Check with your national rules guy.  We are trying to get all clubs on board with a standardized set of rules.  However, the spirit of the rule is to not allow someone to come in and sandbag.  Long time members who are still competing in the same class shouldnt be an issue, and it will be addressed at the meeting.  As long as we keep working to make it right, we will eventually get close.  It will never be perfect but we need to keep trying 😀

Agree 100%. Coming back a running the same skill and age class should never be an issue.

ok i can't believe i'm going to do this but for once i agree with jimmy.

article VII states that past members returning to their same class will not be required to reclassify .

david a i am glad to see a member coming back and i will bring this up at the meeting tonight..
you can come to the meeting or it will be on the web so hopefully we can have you run the national as a member..

welcome back

His name is Bernard Daily not David and he still has to rider the required two races in the past 12 months as a member per national bylaws.. He was battling it out with Andy King a few years ago in the 38 exp class..
