The temperature was in the 80's compared to the over 100 degrees, last year for the Hollister Bay chapter nationals. 240 pre-signed up and by race day Saturday morning, the spectators would see 423 pairs of boots lined up behind the gate ,on the dirt start. Throughout the weekend riders walked up to the fence to watch full gates of riders charging down the start straight through the loamy soil into that first 180° right turn. Full gates with riders of similar skill level. that's what we were there for. The South chapter had 24 racers on the line over the weekend. I heard about 40 people showed up for the Friday night South chapter hosted dinner. The dinner was held behind the starting gate in the flat parking area. Two of the South chapter riders finished quite high in their class. One was Peter Mayforth finishing first in the 58 intermediates and Mike Macial finishing second in the 52 intermediates.
One new experience worth note was the Saturday Pro practice in the early afternoon and then the pro-shoot out. The pros did 2-20 min. Moto's. The crowd was up to the fence to watch Tyler Enticknap who finished fourth from Lompoc, Carlen Gardner finished third from Paso Robles, Austin Walton finished second from Sparks Nevada and Supercross pro Dare Demartile finish first on the 450 Honda from Lincoln ,California. Dare had perfect style and form as he executed motocross techniques around the corners, searching out lines and completing the obstacles , setting the Honda up for the next obstacle or corner. the crowd stayed on their feet watching the 38 pros buzzing around the track . By the end of the Moto's, Dare was halfway through lappers and all from one gate.
Englishman , Mike Carpenter who lives near Pala MX track likes to ride each week at Pala. At Perris , Mike was moved up to the intermediates and took the bump up with excitement as he beat the field of novices quite handedly . "No problem mate, I'll go after the intermediates at Hollister ". Mike , said that at Perris. 15 riders in the 30 intermediate class lined up with Mike on Saturday and Sunday and his best start was 10th place. Mike stalled 3 times and kept a good attitude and had a ball racing with the intermediates. He's in good shape teaching Pilates classes and jumping out of planes , parachuting to the ground. Mike said "There's nothing like racing with big gates and lots of guys to ride with".Well worth the trip to Hollister and Mike also signed up for additional riding in the support class on Saturday.
The raffle was top-notch and a new 450 Honda was raffled off to a lucky non-south winner. Before the raffle was the barbecue. If you pre-signed up you got a free BBQ dinner ticket along with the free Bay national shirt .
Racing went on Saturday till around 6 PM .
Sunday was finished by around 4 PM.
Trophies were awesome and the track was prepped well by AMP and the obstacles were safe if you didn't quite make it all way over a double , triple or tabletop.

Thanks Steve,missed you out there.
A couple races you would have had your own moto , because of mishaps with the first gate.
