Mechanic Monday Tip of the week. Shortcuts.

We all love a shortcut to get something done easier. Having been a mechanic for some 38 years now, many shortcuts have been huge time and hardship savers. While others have caused a big hassle. Yes it feels good to remove a part without the labor to remove a dozen other parts just to get at it. That said there are times when a shortcut isn't in your best interest. This weeks tip includes 3 ways to use discernment with shortcuts.
1. If you are keeping an older mx bike going one can easily miss defects in the parts that were not removed and inspected to pursue a shortcut. In the case of an older bike, car, house or boat when a part breaks often everything else attached to it is worn out too.
2. Other short cuts can stress wires, cables and fluid lines and in the end cost you more time so treat these items tenderly or skip the shortcut if they can be stressed.
3. The last shortcut that seems to catch mechanics is the shortcut that looks good at first but the access to the item with tools or fingers is more of a hassle then simply removing the other parts to begin with.

Stay greasy my friends.
