OK,  so if I am understanding this right.......If we want to do a practice lap, etc., we had better be there by 0800 to do it, correct ???  Will we have people there early signing us up?

Yep.
1 practice lap at 08:00.
But don't worry it's probably at least a 5 mile loop, you won't remember it after just one practice lap. But, I think they're pretty good about laying out a track with no surprises, be a little cautious on the first lap to make sure and then let 'er rip. You can make up a lot of ground in 45 minutes.

Correct, the race is not won on the first lap, should be plenty of fun.

I know.....questions questions....Yes, I am the question cadet !  😀    So, basically, if we are going to do a practice lap, we will get to Glen Helen early, just like a regular race day?????  Will our Fabulous sign up ladies be there that early to sign us up or are we signing up through Glen Helen???  Do we need our transponders???

Theresa, I'll ask John to check with SRA about the practice lap, he was going to talk to the guy tonight.  I wouldn't worry about them being that strict about being signed-up or not.  They know we are coming and there will be a lot of bikes out there at one time...pretty hard to regulate even for their own riders.  So from their perspective there is a risk that a few people will get away with a "free" practice lap if they don't sign-up, but I really don't think they will be that worried about it.

Yes, we will be using transponders for our race, just as usual.  You will be able to rent one if needed from sign-ups.  The last few times I've raced these GPs I've never done the parade lap.  The only problem is if you holeshot and lead the pack, you won't know where you're going for the first lap.  😮  The course is usually pretty easy to figure out on the fly.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weather is nice to us this weekend!

On a side note, this race is a tad different than our normal race. We will not have a kids support race, so if you want the kid to race this is the race for them.

11:45am – 85 cc, Super Mini, 200cc & Women

The big bike support can go in the OTHG race with the rest of us.

just a note if they run close to the same course as the D-37 GP you mite want to gear up there are some real fast sections 1 tooth up on the counter shaft sprocket or 2 less on the rear the course can be as long as 8 or 9 miles have fun Gp's are a blast

I have run many GP's with the SRA and the courses are generally about 4 miles long (guesstimate). It is basically the National track linked to the REM track linked to the truck course with some flat slick hardpack in between. The biggest jumps are whatever is on the National track at that time. I always tell riders that are new to GP's to just relax and enjoy the ride, don't try to go fast. The course is too long to memorize in one practice lap and going off course will ruin your day in a hurry. If you have never ridden your dirt bike on a paved road I advise you to be cautious going onto and off of the pavement. Knobbies stick real good right up to the point that you are sliding on your head with no idea how you got there. Also beware of the area behind the REM track, IF it is dry that part of the track gets pretty dusty and if you are behind a couple of riders you can't see at all. I have always run stock gearing and a stock tank with no problems. I run higher than normal tire pressure because of the rocks (15 or16 psi). Our race is late in the day so be prepared for a rough track ;D
If anyone is interested in running more than one race the SRA has really good vet and senior classes, very clean racers. Their classes are a little faster than ours so you may want to drop one level. I'm racing the senior novice class with them as well as our race.
See ya all out there,  Marty
