Tap - what's with all the hate on ya Brother? Good karma coming your way.
And thanks for helping us pick up ALL that trash after the raffle.
Jimmy , those smites towards redrider r from his friends playing a joke on him ;D Redrider named one of his friends after he (cased it) off a jump, I wont mention his name.... ;D

Jeez wonder who that could be ??? I didn't give him a smite for that obviously I like the name or I wouldn't have changed my moniker to it and put it on my butt patch. Reminds me of a Elvis Costello song called Alison : " Sometimes I wish that I could stop you from talking When I hear the silly things that you say" 😉 It's one of my favorite songs on the My aim is true album. That's real cool Jeff 8) my Mom came out to watch at Indian dunes once I rode a TT 500 and she wanted a ride so as I'm going down the Drag / landing strip she's hanging on for dear life screaming GO FASTER. You really had a good weekend it's always a pleasure to see you in passing.

My parents were very supportive of it when I was young from 7th grade to 11th grade. In fact we raced almost every weekend on mini's had the RV and camped and I still remember those good ole days and hope my sons appreciate the same thing I try and do now with the camping and such in our RV. WE did the NMA National Circuit in 1978 and 1979 - Arizona, Nevada, the Dunes, Barona Oaks and Saddleback. At the time I knew it cost my dad alot of money but I can really appreciate it as an adult now especially since I have been paying the price for the last 3 years as I got back into racing after a 25 year hiatus of not even touching a motorcycle. I have to thank my brother Tapout for bugging me for years to go out and ride. The one time i did with him I had the bug and it was all over. But now my parents really dont watch in fact I dont think they know about it since I never really say RACING just talk about riding. My dad flew off the handle after breaking my leg the first year racing with the gang. He never new about the broken arm less than 8 mos later. I avoided him for 6 weeks and when the cast was off he never even knew. Kind of sad, and he may be proud of my racing? But on the other hand we had quite a few years of racing as kids and he loved it. We would Race friday nights at the dunes, play Pop Warner football on saturdays, come home pack up and head up north on Sat. afternoon to spillway park to race in Santa Maria. We would do the camping thing and race on sunday. One of the roughest, snottiest track you would ever see. Some of you old school guys may know of it or possibly even have raced on it. We did that weekend deal for almost 3 years. There were some gaps though since I had broke my leg there in 1979, and then I had a broken arm/shoulder the following year. Once I had my drivers license my dad said you are on your own (I dont need to take you any more and besides I would like to stay home and do things on the weekend after being on the road for so long) and it was never really the same after that. I got a Suzuki Full Floater 125 in 1981 raced a few times and then sold it to my brother and hung it up and never put my leg on a bike until 25 years later. Now here I am and loving it. Sometimes I wish they would come out and watch on weekends like the nationals but then again I am very thankful for the great childhood memories of racing.
Hey Redrider... Great story! Glad you found your way back on a bike. We always seem to come back to
this sport at some point... no matter what life throws at us, even if it takes 25 years!
Just wanted to touch base on Spillway park, it was one of my favorite all time sand tracks.
We spent many of weekends camping and racing at spillway park. I to this day, can not remember any track
that had bigger sand whoops then Spillway. Those things Swallowed up bikes and riders! GOOD TIMES!
Speaking of sand... maybe we'll see you at Edwards.

Hey Curt yeah it got me thinking about it and reminiscing after hearing Mr. Hamblin talk about his parents and their saturday visit. My brother (tapout) and I had some great times at Spillway while we were growing up. I learned how to ride sand their the hardway. My first race was in 1976 on a XR 75. I cannot count how many times I went down in the sand (never had ridden sand before that) and I just kept picking myself back up. As time went on I became pretty good. I can remember coming down the back straight away and off the Banzai jump (not much compared to today but was big in the day, then thru the sand wash around the left turn and across the finish line and left around the big bowl turn........ Matter of fact I can ride thru sand standing up fairly well to this day. Showed a little of the old school thru the Daytona section at Glen Helen. My little brother showed some of his skills as well, he was barrelling around the outside of the sand throwing it up hard. Whats your last name Curt? Did you race minis back then? If not which size bike. I can remember as kids we were ecstatic seeing the likes of STeve Schmitz (factory Suzuki RM 80), Jeff Ward, George Holland, Jimmy Holley (YZ 80) AJ Whiting. We were in awe back in the day with those guys as our idols. Watching the 125 Pros back then was great and exciting as well-Gary Denton Pomona Suzuki, Jerry Shores Jr, Donnie Hanson and on and on, Broc Glover raced there one time as well and Burgett. I plan on attending Edwards AFB this weekend. I will keep my eye out for you and keep your eye out for the 529er. See ya!
Hi Redrider, I rode a puch 125 in the early 70's in the California deserts. What a blast, surrounded by CZ's,
Maicos, Bulltacos, Grieves, DKW's and Rickman's. My first MX race was at Spillway in 1980 and the rest is
history. I remember watching all the mini guys you mentioned including Jimmy Holly and Brian Myerscough (sp?).
I was a couple years older then those guys, didn't get a chance to race with them. I'd rather not use my last name
the FBI is looking for me for cherrypicking the first moto at the Glen Helen National...ha ha!
See ya at Edwards,
Curt James
