In case anyone's interested, here's how my deal went down.

Farmed in front of the gate. Stater guy came up to me and said that wasn't allowed and that he should make me start in another gate. He then told me to wait a minute while he radio'd someone. He then came back to me and said, " The gang says you gotta move".

We just make a rule for the nationals at the Tulare national board members meeting that you can not farm past the regular length of a standard broom if you're standing behind the gate.
This will work for both concrete and dirt starts.

I think you should be able to farm your gate! it makes it safer for the riders around them cause there will be less of a chance of the rider to get squirrly and wreck into some one. It allows the rider to not just get better traction BUT it helps the rider maintain a straighter line when launching off.. We're not Pros so farming should be allowed.

Easy then, find out who was on the Gang end of the radio and ask them if they were confused or not?

I just want to know what the RULE is.

Maybe the Race Director could chime in on this conversation?

My first National at the track I flew out of ::) It had rained and someone was on a razor or rhino packing a guys gate and that was totally unfair. Maybe the rule started there?
