I would like to keep 711 for 2012.
Article IV
COMPETITION NUMBERS: Competition numbers will be assigned to all gang members in the order of their membership during the first year. At the end of their first year, numbers shall be assigned to the member of that Club Chapter according to their point standing at the end of the year, provided they are in the top 25 in final points (the Top 25 numbers are reserved). Numbers outside of the top 25 can be requested with preference given to the rider with that number the previous year provided the membership is submitted and paid for prior to the first race of the season and is a current year form.
First come first serve "out side the top 25" I'm sure the current year form will be available asap, as were all rarin to go for next year. 8)

Ok, I have a few questions now.
In the OTHG BYLAWS under Numbers and Rider Classification Article IV – Competition Numbers it states that Competition numbers will be assigned to all gang members in the order of their membership during the first year.
When I joined this year I was assigned # 720
Question # 1 – Do I now keep that number for the entire time that I keep my membership in good standing regardless of the number of years I maintain my membership?
Question # 2 - Or will I be assigned a new number when I join the 2012 season?
I understand the top 25 numbers being reserved as outlined in the BYLAWS – That is clear
What I believe is ambiguous are the numbers outside the top 25 – The BYLAWS clearly states that a request can be made. What is not clear is in what order are the request processed.
Question # 3 – Since it is not outlined in the BYLAWS – Does it not make sense that the rider who finished #26 in the points would be the first rider to place a number request for the following year or is this just simply understood as to how the selection process will take place?
Question # 4 – Why would the rider from the previous season have first choice of keeping a number ahead of a rider that just finished in the current season in that position. Example – rider A that just finished 26th in the points for the 2011 season could be precluded from running # 26 if the rider from the previous season (2010) decides to keep that number?
Question # 5 – Am I missing something here?
I am not trying to stir the pot here, I am just trying to understand the process.

Old school wording, nowadays what ever you choose out side the top 25 that's currently vacant is issued.
When I joined this year I was assigned # 720
Question # 1 – Do I now keep that number for the entire time that I keep my membership in good standing regardless of the number of years I maintain my membership?
You can if your the first to send in $35.00 with it. ;D
Question # 2 - Or will I be assigned a new number when I join the 2012 season?
No, you have the choice of running a "earned" top 25 or your own number of choice outside the top 25.
I understand the top 25 numbers being reserved as outlined in the BYLAWS – That is clear
What I believe is ambiguous are the numbers outside the top 25 – The BYLAWS clearly states that a request can be made. What is not clear is in what order are the request processed. The request is an "intent" to reserve a particular number. That really can only be done with a current application and dues. But as it has been the norm, the applications aren't available until after the new year. So folks make their intent known.
Question # 3 – Since it is not outlined in the BYLAWS – Does it not make sense that the rider who finished #26 in the points would be the first rider to place a number request for the following year or is this just simply understood as to how the selection process will take place?
No, usually someone who has a particular three digit number of meaning gets the ball rolling. This year two digits 26 thru 99 are included.
Only the top 25 are "protected" Started this year, so 2012 will be the first time someone will possibly run a number that isn't reflected by their finishing position the prior year.
Question # 5 – Am I missing something here?
It's somewhat complicated, but a few folks didn't see the point of tying up 75 numbers that most weren't going to run. Plus you need to change back grounds as often. For instance if I was 45 last year and 89 this year I most likely wouldn't want to change?I am not trying to stir the pot here, I am just trying to understand the process.
Jim Cole
Thanks Chuck, I think the numbers rule is easy to understand, I guess others not so much.
To put it simple Jim, the top 25 numbers are reserved for riders the earned them, all else are opened to all with this years rider having first chance to renew the same number, all open numbers are up for grabs. We should have around 800 open numbers next year and 175 that will be open if the 2011 rider does not want to keep.
One question....
If I run my earned number next year will my #159 be protected until the following year?
I noticed on the Bay site that if you ran your "earned" number in 2012, your permanent number would be saved. Providing you paid your membership by the deadline. Ours would be by the first race. That's a nice way to congratulate the top 25.
Chucky
Thank you Chucky and Jim for your responses.
I would like to make my intent known for 2012. I am currently sitting in 30th in points.
I think with two races left I may be able to move up a bit however I don't think there is any way I will break into the top 25 - So I would like to run a number where I finish - something in that range I suspect.
Jim Cole
Jim, I suspect you'll move lower as Joe Stern is out, and a few of the guys below you may not make both of the last races. In the past we weren't able to give up numbers. So if I was say 28 and didn't run it, it was non existant. And if you had 28 the year before I couldn't "allow" you to continue using it. Looking at last years numbers and the folks who hold them, given where they are today and who keep their three digits. You may have a good shot at running the number you earn. I can't remember if when we voted to lower the reserved to 25, if we put in a provision to give first shot to those who earned 26 - 100. If not we should. Or at least allow the trading of numbers. Now here's the carrot, you'll end up inside the top 30, probably closer to 25. You just missed a Jacket your first year, awesome. BUT with two races to go anything can happen. I remember Mike Cosaert was sitting in 26Th, and wasn't going to the last race of the year. But Steve Misrahi who was 25 wasn't going either, so we talked Mike into it and he earned a jacket. Good luck and I hope you crack the top 25.
Chucky
I will still run the 815g even though it didnt even see a day on the track this year. Hopefully next year will be a good comeback year.
